Toyota Hiace EV could go into series production in the future; no powertrain details revealed for now.
Toyota Autobody, a division of Toyota Motors responsible for the company’s commercial vehicles and vans, showcased an electric version of the Hiace van at the Japan Mobility Show (Tokyo Motor Show 2023). Additionally, Toyota presented concept models of a sports car, an SUV, and even a Land Cruiser Prado with a unique yoke-shaped steering wheel designed to assist drivers with lower limb disabilities.
Toyota Hiace EV Dimensions and Design
The Toyota Hiace BEV boasts 5,280mm in length, 1,950mm in width, 1,990mm in height, and a wheelbase of 3,210mm. Despite its substantial size, Toyota asserts that this electric Hiace will have an impressive turning radius of just 5.5 meters.
This vehicle was exhibited in a cargo van configuration, offering a single seat and a large touchscreen beside the steering wheel. Toyota claims that the screen will be able to display information such as the package’s location in the van and it will be able to map out the shortest delivery route.
In its delivery van setup, the concept vehicle includes a single seat, which helps maximize cargo space. The cargo-specific van also boasts a flat floor and a rack for package storage.
Battery Pack & Powertrain
Toyota has yet to disclose specific powertrain details such as battery size, range, or drive specifics for the Hiace BEV. However, Toyota has indicated that the van’s versatility extends to potential uses as a tourist van or public services like ambulances.
While the Hiace BEV is built on the latest-generation MPV platform, Toyota did sell the previous-gen Hiace in India in limited numbers.
