Hyundai has trademarked the Genesis GV80 Coupe in India, which comes with 2.5-litre and 3.5-litre turbo-petrol engines overseas.
Hyundai has taken a significant step by trademarking the design of the Genesis GV80 Coupe in India. This indicates the possibility of a future launch. This move suggests Genesis’ entry into the Indian market, aiming to compete with luxury brands like BMW, Mercedes, and Audi.
Design and Specifications
A few months ago, we reported on Genesis’ potential entry into India, and the recent design patent for the GV80 Coupe supports this speculation. Globally the GV80 is available in both SUV and coupe-SUV forms. But they patented only the coupe-SUV version in India. The GV80 features Genesis’ distinctive crest-shaped grille, flanked by a twin horizontal headlamp setup on each side. This twin-lighting design continues at the rear, complemented by sporty bumpers on both ends. Additionally, the coupe’s roofline enhances its sporty appeal.
Genesis GV80 Coupe – Powertrain Options and Launch Timeline
Internationally, the Genesis GV80 offers three powertrain options. A 2.5-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 304hp, a 3.5-litre turbo-petrol engine generates 380hp, and a 3.5-litre engine paired with a 48V electric supercharger, delivers 415hp and 549Nm. Although Hyundai has not yet confirmed the GV80 Coupe’s launch or Genesis’ entry into India, the brand is expected to introduce its first product by the end of 2025. Should the GV80 Coupe be launched in India, it will compete with Mercedes GLE, BMW X5, and Audi Q7.
