BMW has introduced the CE 04, the most expensive scooter in India. The BMW CE 04 price in India is Rs 14.90 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings have opened with deliveries commencing in September.
BMW CE 04 Features
Features of the CE 04 include all-LED lighting, a Bluetooth-compatible 10.25-inch TFT display, keyless ignition, three riding modes (Eco, Rain, Road), ABS, switchable traction control, a main stand, and reverse mode. Additionally, it has a ventilated storage compartment with a USB-C charger for smartphones and a side-mounted storage compartment with a dedicated light. The scooter is available in blue and white colors.
Battery and Charging Options
Powered by an 8.5kWh battery, the BMW CE 04 offers a claimed range of 130km. It features two charging options: a standard 2.3kW charger and an optional 6.9kW fast charger. Charging from 0 to 100% takes approximately 4 hours and 20 minutes with the standard charger. And if you use the fast charger, it reduces this time to 1 hour and 40 minutes.
The CE 04 Performance
The CE 04 is equipped with a liquid-cooled permanent magnet motor, a rare feature in India, producing a peak output of 31kW (42hp) and 62Nm of torque. This power is delivered to the rear wheel via a belt final drive, supported by a single-sided swingarm. BMW claims the scooter can accelerate from 0 to 50kph in just 2.6 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 120kph.
Chasis, Suspension and Braking System
Built on a steel double-loop frame, the CE 04 features a telescopic fork and an offset mono-shock for suspension. Its braking system includes twin 265mm discs at the front with J.Juan radially-mounted 4-piston callipers. And at the rear a 265mm disc with a single-piston axial calliper.
The CE 04 rides on 15-inch wheels, among the largest in the Indian scooter market. It is fitted with tires similar to those of a middleweight sportbike: 120/70-R15 at the front and 160/60-R15 at the rear. Despite its low seat height of 780mm, it has a kerb weight of 231kg, nearly equivalent to the new R 1300 GS.
Accessories
BMW provides an extensive array of accessories for the CE 04. Multiple seat configurations, extra electronic enhancements, a higher windscreen, a side bag, a top case, a luggage carrier and an anti-theft alarm.
Competitors
In the Indian market, other premium scooters include the Vespa 946 Dragon Edition, priced at Rs 14.28 lakh. And the petrol-powered BMW C 400 GT, which costs Rs 11.25 lakh. While the Ultraviolette F77 Mach 2 Recon electric bike offers similar power, with higher torque and range, it is priced at a more affordable Rs 3.99 lakh. How many customers in India will choose the unique CE 04 over other comparable options remains to be seen.
