Suzuki GSX 8R, GSX S1000 GX Revealed at EICMA 2023

Suzuki has unveiled a pair of new motorcycles, both built upon existing platforms, showcased at EICMA 2023 – introducing the GSX 8R sportbike and the GSX S1000GX sport-touring crossover.

Suzuki GSX 8R Engine & Platform

This new model is underpinned by Suzuki’s latest 776cc engine platform, shared with the GSX 8S and V-Strom 800 series. While precise power figures for the GSX 8R remain undisclosed, you can expect performance in the vicinity of the 82hp/78Nm generated by its naked sibling.

Design & Colour Options

The sleek and muscular layered full faired design of the GSX 8R looking very futuristic & modern. At the front the vertically stacked hexagonal LED headlights, topped by an LED DRL create a futuristic appeal. The 2024 GSX 8R makes a bold statement with its availability in three captivating color options: Metallic Triton Blue, Metallic Matte Sword Silver, and Pearl Ignite Yellow, each featuring the unique graphics.

Electronics & Comfort

The GSX 8R instrument panel uses a full-color, 5-inch TFT LCD multifunction instrument panel, flanked by LED indicators. The brightness adjustable TFT display delivers a wide range of useful information. The display can be set for manual or automatic switching between Day Mode (white background) and Night Mode (black background). Retaining all the foundational components from the GSX 8S, including electronics, the GSX-8R distinguishes itself with a sleek, layered full-fairing design that doesn’t compromise comfort. Notably, it adopts raised clip-on handlebars, providing a distinctive look while maintaining rider comfort. Weighing in at 208kg, the GSX 8R is marginally heavier than the GSX 8S.

As of now, the 776cc-powered Suzuki models, including the GSX 8R, have yet to hit the Indian market. While the V-Strom 800DE has been spotted during testing, the availability of the GSX 8R in India remains uncertain.

Suzuki GSX S1000 GX Engine & Platform

Built upon the GSX S1000 GT sport-tourer platform, the GX shares its main frame and engine but stands out with its elevated stance, robust subframe, and the addition of a new Showa electronic suspension. Introducing Suzuki’s Active Damping Control with 3 preset settings (Hard, Medium, Soft) and a customizable User mode. The GX also pioneers cornering ABS and traction control in the GSX-S lineup, thanks to its six-axis IMU.

Design & Colour Options

The fresh fairing features a sharp, projecting nose that ends at the compact LED headlights. The vertically stacked pair of compact hexagonal LED headlights creates a sharp look with unique character. A pair of surface-emitting LED position light strips flank the headlights along the sides of the front fairing with the look of a sharp pair of “eyes” that present a sporty & sophisticated look. There is also a custom-designed ignition key adds a luxurious touch by presenting the owner with the GX logo in black lettering on a gold background. The 2024 GSX S1000GX+ arrives in Pearl Matte Shadow Green colour. This is the new colourway debuts for the first time on this bike.

Electronics & Comfort

The GSX S1000GX boasts a comprehensive array of rider aids, encompassing ride modes, traction control, active damping control, ride-by-wire technology, ABS, lift limiter, automatic rear suspension adjustment, bi-directional quickshifter, cruise control, and a 6.5-inch TFT display for monitoring various parameters. The GSX S1000GX+ has a 6.5-inch full-colour TFT instrument panel. The display can be set for manual or automatic switching between Day Mode (white background) and Night Mode (black background). And this instrument panel is flanked by LED indicators.

Suzuki GSX S1000GX Launch

At present, the Suzuki Katana stands as the sole model utilizing this engine platform available for purchase in India. The potential introduction of the GSX S1000GX in the Indian market remains uncertain. If it were to be launched, it would find competition in its segment with the Kawasaki Versys 1000 and the BMW S 1000 XR as its closest rivals.
